Mathematical Biology Seminar

Dr. Barbazuk will discuss the Agricultural challenges that the world faces given projected population growth and available land. In this context he will briefly discuss the genomic/biotech revolution with respect to agriculture and crop improvement strategies. In the course of his talk, he will feature some familiar examples and discuss future efforts. He will also introduce and discuss challenges to their implementation. Dr. Barbazuk is Senior Bioinformaticist at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. The Danforth Center is a not-for-profit research institute with a global vision to improve the human condition. Research at the Danforth Center will enhance the nutritional content of plants to improve human health, increase agricultural production to create a sustainable food supply, and provide the scientific ideas and technologies that will contribute to the economic growth of the St. Louis region and of the State of Missouri. This special colloquium is sponsored by Truman's Mathematical Biology Initiative and is funded by grants from the National Science Foundation.
