- The Mathematical Biology Seminar continues, Fall 2005
- The Mathematical Biology Seminar is set to continue in the fall. Read on for more information.
- A Science or Engineering Bachelor's Degree Is Good for You
- Earning a bachelor's degree in science or engineering (S&E) appears to serve the recipient well in the workforce, regardless of the job they do. In fact, according to a National Science Foundation (NSF) survey, people who have earned an S&E bachelor's degree generally report that science and engineering knowledge is important to their job.
- Mathematical Biosciences Institute: 2007 Calendar Available
- The Mathematical Biology Institute (MBI) at the Ohio State University is one of the nation's best places for mathematicians, computer scientist, and statisticians to come together with professionals in the life scientists to work on (or learn about) questions in an interdisciplinary fashion. The MBI 2007 calendar was just shared on the SMB listserv, and I wanted to call people's attendion to three events: the MBI summer program for undergraduates, a summer program in systems physiology for faculty and strong students, and two special workshops of interst to faculty.
- MAA Mathbio SIGMAA Born
- The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is one of the more visible of the professional societies for mathematical scientists around the world. It has what are called SIGMAAs, or Special Interest Groups of the MAA, which allow memebrs with a shared interest to come together to learn more about their interest or promote it among those who don't know so much. This week, charter members just learaned that there is now a SIGMAA for Mathematical Biology called BIO SIGMAA. There was much rejoicing at the news. Read on for a few more details.
- Subscribe to the MathBio email list
- Truman's Mathematical Biology Initiative uses an email list to stay in contact with faculty and students whose interest intersect ours. Using the list, we announce the topics of upcoming Mathematical Biology Seminars, pass on information about about internships of interest to undergraduates, and share news about upcoming conferences that might interest faculty or be good vanues for student presentations or posters. More information about how to join the list after the jump.
- Biostatistics at Mizzou
- Just got a notice from friends at MU. It starts this way: "The Department of Statistics at the University of Missouri likes to call your attention that we recently received a funding from the National Institutes of Health for our Biostatistics training program titled Predoctoral Research Training in Biostatistics in University of Missouri-Columbia. We would appreciate your help to pass this information to potential students who may be interested in this training program." Read on for more information.
- 2008 Summer Program in Mathematical Bioengineering
- Each summer the MBI hosts a 3-week education program. The first week is spent in a tutorial, which combines morning lectures with active learning laboratories in the afternoon. The following 2 weeks are spent working on guided team projects and participating in a miniconference to share project results. The program is meant primarily for graduate students; college instructors and qualified undergraduates will also be considered.
- 2008 RLC Program Now Taking Applications!
- The Mathematical Biology program is now taking applications for the 2008 Research-focused Learning Communities in Mathematical Biology program. This program is gaining national recognition for the quality of the training it provides students, the talent of the faculty involved, and its research achievements. If you are a mathematics major or biology major at Truman, and if you are enthusiastic about teamwork and honing your interdisciplinary skills, you should apply to participate.
