2008 RLC Program Now Taking Applications!
The Mathematical Biology program is now taking applications for the 2008 Research-focused Learning Communities in Mathematical Biology program. This program is gaining national recognition for the quality of the training it provides students, the talent of the faculty involved, and its research achievements. If you are a mathematics major or biology major at Truman, and if you are enthusiastic about teamwork and honing your interdisciplinary skills, you should apply to participate. Read on for more information.
Truman's Mathematical Biology program is very proud to be able to offer to Truman students one of the nation's best research-based interdisciplinary training programs in mathematical biology. Students who have completed this program have gone on to some of the nation's best graduate programs, medical schools, and secured interdisciplinary employment. Information about current and past participants can be found at this page.
Today, the Mathematical Biology program invites students to submit applications to participate in the 2008 program. If you are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary work, willing to learn more about biology or mathematics (whichever will be your partner discipline) and work cooperatively as part of a team, you should consider participating in the program.
The online application can be found at the online application page.
Before applying, please read the description of the 2008 program, available at the program description page.
and closely review the five different research projects that are available for 2008. Each applicant will be assigned one, according to the applicant's preferences. Students are strongly encouraged to talk with the faculty who are mentoring projects of interest before submitting an application.
Please note two changes to this years program:
- participants will be strongly encouraged to register for one of Truman's interdisciplinary mathematical biology courses: Bioinformatics (CS 325), or Introduction to Mathematical Biology (BIOL 345/MATH 345). Both courses count toward the biology and mathematics majors. Take a look at the program's incentive for taking the course.
- in addition to the stipend and the room and board, students will receive credit for their summer research (pending approval)
The Mathematical Biology program will review applications on Friday, 2 November.
Please help us spread the word that the program applications are online!
