Mathematical Biology Program's Virtual Office
The Mathematical Biology program at Truman involves faculty distributed over several departments and two schools. The program has no central office, though it does receive considerable support from the STEP Office. Consider this page the 'virtual office' for the program.
This page contains information that should be of use to participants in the 2008 RLC program. If there is information that you think should be added to this page, please contact Prof. Jason Miller by email.
The 2008 RLC Program
Information for participants in the 2008 program is available via the following links.
- The on-line timecard for work done during the academic year is available here.
- the SURE 2008 program's Master Calendar is the official listing of summer program events, though the MathBio Portal's calendar will be frequently updated with RLC-specific events; a list of events in the portal can be found here
- Other Announcements and News for RLC Program participants
- An RLC Photo Album. Please join the portal and submit your pictures.
All participants are welcome to add program-related events (e.g., social activities) to the Master Calendar calendar, photos to the Photo Album, and comments to any page in the portal.
Research Proposals
Each group's research proposal can be found here. Please read before the research proposal presentations on Friday, 23 May.
Summer Orientation Materials
Each student participant received a folder with some orientation materials for the summer program. Electronic copies of those materials are listed here for download and later reference.
- General orientation reader
- Acknowledgement of NSF Support and Disclaimer information sheet
- List of STEP Workshops with descriptions
- Schedule of STEP Workshops
- E-journal questions for the RLC program
- List of all SURE projects
STEP Office Forms: Travel and Supplies
Please use the following forms to request supplies and travel funds. Please make such requests in advance of travel and making purchases. Not all expenses are reimbursable by the program.
- the STEP Office travel request forms
- the STEP Office supply request form
Communication and Assessment
The Mathematical Biology invests considerable energy is making sure that its members have the tools to effectively communicate within and across groups. We also take our commitment to assessment and evaluation of the program seriously. Here are some links to programmatic resources that RLC participants (students and mentors) might use.
Communication
- Email listservs for the program are:
- SURE08students-rlc@pyrite.truman.edu: email will be sent to all participating undergraduates
- SURE08mentors-rlc@pyrite.truman.edu: email will be sent to all participating mentors
- SURE08all-rlc@pyrite.truman.edu: email will be sent to all participants
- A shared folder on the Truman network is available for each group. (See these instructions for using this resource.) The folder (which is on the U: drive) can be mounted in any OS. See ITS help documentation here for students and here for faculty for OS X and here for windows.
- The MathBio Web Portal is also a tool that can be used to enhance collaboration. See basic instructions here for using the site.
Assessment
- Each week, RLC students will reflect on what they are learning and experiencing in the RLC program and record those reflections in our on-line e-journal. After the program is over, everyone's reflections are studied to help understand how the RLC program deepens interdisciplinary understanding and professional growth.
